I can remember the not-too-distant past when grain elevators stood majestically approximately every nine miles across the Canadian prairie cities, towns, villages, and hamlets. Now, sadly, they are very rare, since they were replaced by inland terminals. When the railroads downsized and closed the prairie branch lines, it was the death-blow of countless rural communities.
